History of Holi

 



         Holi is among the most popular festival of India. This festival is also known as “Festival of colours”. It signifies the victory of good over evil. This festival is mainly celebrated in India also the festival Holi is originated from  India. It is spreaded over many regions of Asia and many parts the western world.  Holi is the most lively of the Hindu festival. It celebrated in the end of winter season and start of spring season which comes near the month of February and March. As many people know about Holi festival but very few people know about its history. Also why the people use to celebrate the festival Holi? We all should know about the history of Holi festival.

         Holi is an ancient Hindu festival. It is being mentioned in the Puranas, and by the poet Kalidas during the empire  of Chandragupta II in the 4thcentury The celebration of Holi festival is also mentioned in the 7th-century Sanskrit drama Ratnavali.



Many people recalls the story of festival of Holi involves an evil king named Hiranyakashipu. He forbids his son Prahlad to worship to worship Vishnu, but Radhu  continues to pray to Vishnu. Gets angry on son, Hiranyakashipu challenged the Prahlad to sit o pyre.  Also told to sit with his aunt Holika who was believes to be immune in fire. Prahalad acccepted the challenge and continued to pray the Vishnu.

          After when the fire started all the people was shocked to see, as the Holika burnt into the fire while the Prahlad survived without a trace to show for it. So on the burning on burning of Holika Holi festival is celebrated.

           Holi festival also had a story from the Lord Krishna. It believed that Lord Krishna was sad on his dark complexion. One day, His mother Yashoda suggested that he can  playfully suggested him that he can stain colour on Radha’s face and wanted to change her colour. He encouraged by the idea, and proceeded to do that. By this Holi festival is known as “Festival of colours”. Krishna was also populasied the festival by doing the pranks in “Gopis”. Mathura, Barsana and Virandavan are famous through the worldwide for the intitmate connection.
